Financial Statement Disclosure Checklist Template (IFRS, US GAAP)

Own-wording disclosure review by statement and topic: entity profile, response codes, IFRS and ASC references, EU issuer items, sustainability, sign-off

Keuangan, Investasi & AkuntansiLengkapIFRS Accounting Standards incl. IFRS 18; FASB ASC; UK Companies Act 2006, DTR; SEC Form 20-F; EU 1606/2002, 2004/109/EC, 2013/34/EU, 2019/815financialstatementdisclosurechecklist

Cara menggunakan: Use it during year-end reporting to record that every disclosure area was considered, where it sits and who reviewed it. Fill the entity profile first so only applicable topic tables are worked, then open each standard for the detailed requirements. The main pitfall is ticking a topic because a note exists without checking its content against the standard.

Pratinjau

Financial Statement Disclosure Checklist: [Entity name] [Period]

A review checklist for annual financial statements, organised by statement and by topic, that records for each disclosure area whether it applies, where it is presented and who reviewed it. Covers IFRS Accounting Standards (IAS 1 until periods beginning before 2027-01-01, IFRS 18 from 2027-01-01) with US GAAP topic numbers for comparison, plus UK, SEC and EU listed-issuer items and sustainability cross-references. Every item is written in original wording at topic level and cites the standard by number only: it is not a substitute for the standards or for a full published checklist, and it does not reproduce any. Obtain the standard for the normative text. Replace every [bracketed] value and every row marked Example. This is a document format, not accounting, audit, legal or financial advice.

1. Framework and entity profile

The profile records the facts that decide which parts of the checklist apply. Complete it with the controller of each significant entity and with treasury, tax and legal, because each holds facts the reporting team may not know. Revisit it when a late event changes the facts, for example a disposal agreed after the year end.

2. How to complete the checklist

2.1 Response codes

CodeMeaningEvidence required
YApplies and is disclosedNote and page reference; preparer confirmed every requirement in the topic against the standard or the full checklist
NApplies but not disclosedOpen item in section 10 with owner and due date
NADoes not apply to the entityShort reason, usually a profile answer from section 1
IMApplies but omitted as immaterialMateriality reasoning recorded in section 10.2 and approved by the final reviewer

2.2 Working method

Work from the latest full draft of the statements, not from the previous year's statements. For each topic table, the preparer first decides whether the topic applies, using the profile answers. For each applicable topic, the preparer then opens the standard named in the reference column (or the corresponding section of a licensed full disclosure checklist, if the entity uses one) and checks each requirement against the draft note. The row is marked Y only when every requirement in that topic is either met or separately recorded as N or IM. Record in the comment column which source was used and anything that a reviewer should look at closely.

Two things make a checklist review effective. First, the person who drafted a note should not be the only person who checks it: assign a second preparer to the most judgemental topics (revenue, financial instruments, impairment, income taxes). Second, the reviewer should test the substance as well as the presence of disclosures: a revenue note that discloses disaggregation by geography only, when the business is managed by product line, may pass a presence check and still fail the purpose of the requirement.

Keep each version of the checklist with the draft of the statements it reviewed. When a later draft changes a note, update the affected rows and record the draft number in the comment. Freeze the checklist at the date the statements are authorised for issue.

2.3 Common errors

Experience from year-end reviews shows recurring problems, which the reviewer should look for deliberately. Disclosures are copied from the prior year and no longer match the current facts, such as a reference to a facility that has been refinanced. Numbers in the notes do not agree with the primary statements or with each other, especially in the tax reconciliation, the lease liability roll-forward and the segment reconciliation. Accounting policy text describes a standard in general terms rather than the entity's own choices. New items for the year, such as a first-time hedge or a new grant, have no disclosure because nobody updated the profile. Judgements and estimates disclosures list too many items, so the truly significant ones are lost. And subsequent events between the draft and the authorisation date are not reflected.

Going concern deserves a deliberate review even in a healthy year, because the auditor's work on it is expanding: ISA 570 (Revised 2024) applies to audits of periods beginning on or after 2026-12-15, so for a calendar-year entity it first applies to FY2027. Make sure the note and the management assessment use the same look-forward period, the same forecast and the same conclusion, and that any significant judgement about whether an uncertainty is material is disclosed.

4. Primary statements

PRI-008Earnings per share on the face of the statementIAS 33ASC 260Example: YSPL, Note 12Listed entity

Cross-cast every primary statement and agree each line to the trial balance mapping before any note is reviewed. Then agree every note total to its line item. Most late changes in the audit come from numbers that stopped agreeing after an adjustment was posted to the ledger but not carried through to the notes, so rerun this agreement after every late adjustment.

5. Accounting policies, judgements and estimates

Compare the judgements and estimates note with the list of significant risks in the auditor's plan and with the key audit matters the auditor expects to report. An item that appears as a key audit matter but not as a significant judgement or estimate in the notes needs an explanation, and the reverse is also worth checking.

6. Topic checklists

Work through the topic tables in the order of the notes, so the reviewer can follow the statements page by page. Four topics carry most of the review risk in a typical commercial group: revenue, financial instruments, impairment and income taxes. For these, ask the second preparer to read the note as an investor would, before checking it against the standard, and to write down the three questions the note leaves unanswered. Those questions are often a better guide to missing information than the requirement list itself.

6.1 Revenue

IDTopicReferenceUS GAAP comparisonAppliesNote refComment
REV-001Disaggregation of revenueIFRS 15ASC 606Example: YNote 5By segment and geography; agree to segment note
REV-002Contract balances and their changesIFRS 15ASC 606Example: YNote 5Deferred subscription revenue, refund liabilities
REV-003Performance obligations and remaining performance obligationsIFRS 15ASC 606Example: YNote 5IFRS 15 offers only the one-year and right-to-invoice exemptions; the US GAAP variable consideration exemption has no IFRS equivalent
REV-004Significant judgements in applying the revenue standardIFRS 15ASC 606Example: YNote 3, Note 5Principal or agent for marketplace
REV-005Assets recognised from costs to obtain or fulfil a contractIFRS 15ASC 340-40Example: YNote 16Capitalised commissions

Agree the disaggregation to the segment note and to the revenue descriptions in the management report, because investors compare all three. Check that the contract balance movements explain the significant changes in the year in words, not only in numbers, and that the remaining performance obligation figure uses the same population of contracts as the deferred revenue balance.

FIN-009Borrowings, covenants and breachesIFRS 7; IAS 1 (classification of liabilities with covenants)ASC 470Example: YNote 21Covenants met throughout FY2026

Financial instruments disclosures are long, so assign the treasury accountant as second preparer. Agree the maturity analysis to contractual undiscounted cash flows, not to carrying amounts, and agree the sensitivity analysis to the treasury risk report. For first-year hedge accounting, check that the hedge relationships listed in the note match the designation documentation.

Tax notes are the most frequent source of late audit adjustments, because the provision is finalised last. Recompute the rate reconciliation from the provision workpaper in Income Tax Provision (finance/income-tax-provision), agree every deferred tax movement to profit or loss, other comprehensive income or equity, and confirm that new temporary differences created during the year (such as capitalised development) appear in the deferred tax table.

Segment information must match what the chief operating decision maker actually receives. Obtain the monthly board pack and compare its measures and segments to the note; a mismatch is a common regulator finding. Check that the reconciliation of segment profit to group profit before tax casts and that unallocated items are explained.

Close the topic review by rereading the notes for consistency with each other. The same fact often appears in several notes (a facility in borrowings, liquidity risk, covenants and going concern; an acquisition in business combinations, goodwill and cash flows), and each mention must agree in amount, date and description.

7. Listed issuer and regulatory items

Items in this section depend on the entity's listing venue and country of incorporation. The example is a UK company listed in London with American Depositary Shares in New York, so the UK block and the SEC block apply and the EU block is shown for EU-incorporated issuers only and marked NA for Corvid. Record the law that applies in the reference column, delete the blocks that do not apply, and add rows for any other market. The table is a prompt to check each item with the people responsible, not a summary of the law.

Check the iXBRL and XBRL tagging of the final documents separately from this checklist: tagging errors, extensions and anchoring are a technical review with its own sign-off. The text of the notes in the tagged versions must match the authorised statements exactly, and the UK annual report and the Form 20-F must present the same financial statements. When the two documents are published on different dates, rerun the events after the reporting period review (GEN-008) for the later one.

8. Sustainability reporting cross-references

Decide first whether the entity is in scope for the period, and record the legal basis and the thresholds you relied on. In the EU, the Omnibus I Directive (EU) 2026/470 raised the scope of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive to undertakings with more than 1,000 employees and more than EUR 450 million turnover, with reporting under the revised scope from FY2027; Member States may exempt companies that were already reporting but fall below the new thresholds for FY2025 and FY2026. Check the consolidated text and the national transposition. Simplified European Sustainability Reporting Standards were adopted by the Commission on 2026-07-03 for financial years beginning on or after 2027-01-01; check the delegated regulation in the Official Journal. Outside the EU, jurisdictions adopting the ISSB standards (IFRS S1 and IFRS S2) set their own scope and dates.

For a parent incorporated outside the EU, the relevant EU test is the third-country undertaking regime, which looks at net turnover generated in the EU; check the thresholds in the amended Directive 2013/34/EU. UK companies also have their own requirements: climate-related financial disclosures in the strategic report for larger companies, climate-related statements under the UK Listing Rules, and UK Sustainability Reporting Standards based on IFRS S1 and S2 once the UK sets requirements for them (check the current position).

Example: Corvid had 685 full-time equivalent employees at the end of FY2026 and FY2026 revenue of EUR 140 million, so it is far below the EU third-country turnover test and outside mandatory EU sustainability reporting. As a UK traded company with more than 500 employees, it includes climate-related financial disclosures in its strategic report (REG-003) and a climate-related statement under the UK Listing Rules on a comply-or-explain basis. Legal counsel confirms the position each year, and the reporting team checks the climate disclosures for consistency with the financial statements using the rows below.

For entities in scope, the sustainability statement has its own disclosure review, and its assurance follows the assurance standard that applies in the jurisdiction (ISSA 5000 applies to assurance engagements for periods beginning on or after 2026-12-15). Use ISSB Sustainability Disclosure (finance/issb-sustainability-disclosure) when reporting under IFRS S1 and S2.

The disclosure must describe the effect the entity has assessed. If the assessment is not complete, say so and say what is known. For IFRS 18, the effect on presentation is significant for most entities even though recognition and measurement do not change, so a statement that there is "no material effect" is unlikely to be accurate.

10.2 Disclosures omitted as immaterial

Record each omission, the quantitative and qualitative reasoning, and who approved it. Consider qualitative factors as well as size: a small related party transaction with a director, or a disclosure that regulators or investors are known to focus on, may be material regardless of amount. Reassess these omissions each year rather than carrying them forward.

The audit committee receives a summary of significant disclosure judgements in the Audit Committee Report (finance/audit-committee-report).
