Business Rules Catalogue Template
Business rules: types and conventions, catalogue with ID, statement, type, source, owner, enforcement level, details, enforcement points, change log
使い方: Use it when business rules are scattered across policies, code and scripts and need one owned list. Fill the conventions and the catalogue first, then enforcement points for each behavioural rule. The main pitfall is writing rules as system requirements, so they vanish when the system changes.

Business Rules Catalogue: [Business domain]
Catalogue of the business rules for one domain: each rule's ID, statement, type, source, owner and the points where it is enforced. The rule types follow the Business Rules Analysis technique of IIBA's BABOK Guide version 3 (technique 10.9: definitional and behavioural rules) and the rule categories of the OMG Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Business Rules (SBVR) version 1.5 (December 2019). Replace every
[bracketed]value and every row marked Example.

1. Rule types and writing conventions
| Type | What it does | Example wording |
|---|---|---|
| Definitional (SBVR: definitional rule) | Defines a term or how something is classified or computed; cannot be broken, only applied wrongly | "A policy is active if today is between its start date and end date and the premium is not overdue by more than 30 days." |
| Behavioural (SBVR: behavioral business rule) | Guides conduct; people or systems can break it, so it needs an enforcement level | "A claim with an estimated value above 5,000 must be referred to a handler before any payment." |
Writing conventions:
- One rule per statement, in the business's terms from the glossary.
- Use "must", "must not" or "may only" for behavioural rules, and "is" or "is defined as" for definitional rules.
- Name the subject explicitly; avoid "the system", "it" and "they".
- Put thresholds in the rule, not in a footnote.
- State exceptions as separate rules with their own IDs.
